Why the first 1,000 days matter for expecting mothers and babies

UW’s Judy Simon spoke with KIRO news about the importance of nutrition and its impact on a child’s nuerodevelopment. According to Simon, several nutrients are especially important during pregnancy, including folate, also known as vitamin B9, along with iron and zinc. She also highlighted choline, iodine and omega-3 fatty acids, which help support early brain development.
