Impact of the Trump Administration on Youth Gender-Affirming Care in Seattle
This case study that documents the impact of the second Trump administration’s executive orders on youth gender-affirming care in Seattle, WA. This case study report serves as a record of anti-trans executive orders, impacts on gender-affirming care and other trans rights, and the response from stakeholders: government officials, healthcare systems, and members of the community. This is an important informational tool that details Seattle’s and Washington state’s response to the changing political landscape as they work to protect trans rights, especially the rights of trans youth. This project documents a timeline of events which includes the intent of these executive orders, how the executive orders are enforced and upon which institutions (particularly documenting changes to Seattle Children’s Gender Clinic), news reporting of events, response from the Washington State Attorney General and other government officials in lawsuits against the executive orders, and reactions from the community (namely through Reddit, a popular online forum).
