The Association between Baseline Fructose Consumption and Baseline Biomarkers of Inflammation in a Randomized Controlled Feeding Trial
High fructose intake, especially through sugar-sweetened beverage consumption, has been associated with increased risk of chronic diseases, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and cancer. Biomarkers of inflammation are useful indicators of low-grade chronic inflammation caused by chronic diseases. The objective of this study was to examine the association between baseline fructose consumption and baseline biomarkers of inflammation in the Carbohydrates and Related Biomarkers (CARB) Study participants.
