New Autumn 2015 Course: NUTR 420 Global Nutrition
There has been a changing landscape in nutrition over the past five years, with more attention on the burden of chronic undernutrition as a major impediment to development. There is an increased appreciation of the potential to prevent undernutrition and improve nutrition through multi-sectoral approaches that address not only the most immediate factors of poor diet and infectious diseases, but also more indirect causes, such as poor sanitation and hygiene, low education, inadequate food production, and poverty.
NUTR 420 Global Nutrition: Challenges and Opportunities will provide a comprehensive overview of nutrition in developing countries, with consideration of the factors that lead to poor nutrition of individuals and groups and the impact of compromised nutritional status on public health. It will include a detailed background on the scope of nutrition problems in the developing world, along with a description of the key intervention strategies that are being deployed to improve nutrition, including the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement.
