Campus Benefits Navigators
The Hunger-Free and Basic Needs Campus Strategic Plan is a Washington state-mandated initiative requiring public postsecondary institutions, including community and technical colleges, to develop plans addressing student food insecurity, housing instability, and other basic needs. The plans aim to ensure students have access to necessary resources to focus on their education and reach their full potential.
The City of Seattle wanted to better understand the current status of plan compliance and implementation at colleges in the area. Through research on and interviews with stakeholders at technical, community, private, and public institutions, the capstone teams identified that a number of schools were not in compliance with Strategic Plan legislation. Campus benefits navigators indicated a severe need for campuses to provide better awareness of the resources available to students to more thoroughly improve student outcomes.
