Developing a Data and Performance Measurement Framework for the Food Action Plan
The student assisted the City of Seattle Office of Sustainability & Environment (OSE) to develop a framework to track data and measure performance outcomes for their Food Action Plan (FAP). A specific focus of this project was on Values-Based Food Purchasing (VBFP) and providing baseline research on the current food purchasing patterns of City programs. This practicum helped determine to what extent current food purchasing aligns with the VBFP framework and determine performance measures and design data collection templates to support FAP monitoring and evaluation. Through conducting light literature reviews and working closely with key OSE staff, the student was able to create data collection and reporting tools for both VBFP and FAP, as well as begin synthesizing baseline food purchasing data. These deliverables will be used and further refined by City staff as initial data collection processes are completed over the next few months.
